✨ On the sidelines of the ADEA Triennale in Accra last week, UNICEF hosted the FLN Knowledge & Insights Exchange Reception on 30 October 2025, bringing together Ministers of Education, senior officials, and partners from across Africa who are committed to accelerating progress in foundational learning. The event featured powerful storytelling and discussions from teachers and partners involved in the joint UNICEF–Gates Foundation 17-country Scaling Remedial Education Programme. The reception fostered open, honest dialogue among a diverse range of stakeholders and partners about sustaining progress amid shrinking fiscal space and highlighted that scaling foundational learning requires cross-sectoral partnerships, leveraging not only donor support but also domestic resources and community engagement. UNICEF and the Gates Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to advancing foundational literacy and numeracy across Africa by strengthening teacher capacity, improving data use, and leveraging technology responsibly. This new mode of engagement broke from traditional conference formats by creating space for authentic exchange, collaboration, and shared momentum toward system-wide transformation. #FoundationalLearning #EducationInAfrica #ADEATriennale #EducationForAll Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), Pia Rebello Britto, Conrad Sackey, UNICEF Ghana, Benjamin Piper, Joseph Nsengimana

🌍 At the #SocialSummit2025 in Doha, I was pleased to join India’s side event, “Pathways Out of Poverty: India’s Experience in Empowering the Last Mile.” We discussed how advancing pathways out of poverty is not only a social or economic priority — it is a moral and generational imperative at the heart of UNICEF’s mission: ensuring that every child, everywhere, survives, learns, and fulfills their potential. Eradicating child poverty lays the foundation for peaceful, resilient, and inclusive societies. From the Gulf to the Global South, this requires sustained investment in care systems, social protection, and education that uplift children, women, and communities. Together, we can turn solidarity into systems — and systems into opportunity — for every child. #SocialSummit2025 #UNICEF #ForEveryChild #ChildPoverty #SocialProtection #Inclusion #Partnerships #GCC #India

Connecting today's learning to future opportunities is important. When young people see how their education connects to real job opportunities, they become more motivated. Families appreciate the value of education, and communities thrive. Last week, Dr Pia Rebello Britto visited a lively TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) school in Accra, where students are acquiring valuable skills in IT, engineering, and solar technology. The energy and creativity of the students showed why we should celebrate TVET instead of looking down on it. However, 91% of the secondary students in this engineering-focused #TVET school are male. Girls should have the same chance to explore and succeed in high-growth technical careers. To unlock the full potential of Ghana's skills ecosystem, UNICEF is collaborating with the government and other partners to: - Promote TVET as a preferred pathway to entrepreneurship and innovation - Generate evidence to inform policy and action - Advocate for sustainable and equitable financing - Ensure that girls are included and supported every step of the way These young innovators are helping to create a skills-driven future. Together, we can ensure that every learner has the opportunity to build the future they choose. #GirlsInSTEM #SkillsForAll | Ghana Education Service Christin McConnell Joseph Du Akua Gyan-Darkwa Dayoung Yang Ghana TVET Service Ministry of Education, Ghana Christopher Nkrumah

Children need to grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Recently, UNICEF, in collaboration with the Leadership of Parliament and ACEPA, conducted an important oversight visit to Ayensuano District. Members of Parliament connected with local Child Protection Committees and community leaders to address important child rights issues like child labour and trafficking. UNICEF works with the government and its partners to ensure every child's rights are upheld! #ChildRights #Advocacy #EndChildLabour
